MIGRAIN: Industries - Ownership and control

Founded in  March 19, 2019 by Rupert Murdoch, the successor of 21st Century Fox  (but is owned by Disney). Fox's assets include the  Fox News Media, Fox Entertainment, Fox Sports and Fox Television Stations .  Fox corporation is essentially a form of  diversification  as it includes more than one type of content as listed above. This also makes Fox a a form of vertical integration. The conglomerate  owner would be Disney as they already own a lot of other  subsidiary  companies  and would seem as if they already have owned Fox or at least a large percentage of it. The company name traces back through a series of mergers and demergers to the Fox Film Corporation founded by William Fox on February 1, 1915 Revenue : US$12.91 billion (2021) 2) Do you agree that governments should prevent media conglomerates from becoming too dominant? Write an argument that looks at both sides of this debate. I think that governments should not exactly control a company from being too "powerful&qu

MIGRAIN: Audience theory 2 - the effects debate

Theory questions and your opinion 1) Social learning theory has been criticised for simplifying the causes of violence in society. Do you think the media is responsible for anti-social behaviour and violence? I think that the media is not entirely responsible for violence and anti-social behaviour as many people consume media and there are people who are fine in terms of their social life and seem to be completely fine in terms of being violent. But then there is a small amount of people that are easily influenced  2) How is social learning theory relevant in the digital age? Are young people now learning behaviour from social media and the internet? Give examples. I think that younger kids are following what is shown on social media a lot more as they are young and have a growing mind which will make them replicate what they see on screen. For example there are numerous children that are following popular trends such as eating tide pods which is a laundry pod meant for washing cloth

MIGRAIN assessment 1 - learner response

  1) Type up your feedback in  full  (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential). WWW: Some solid answers, usually well structured EBI: More detailed answers needed, including more theory  2) Read  the mark scheme for this assessment carefully . Identify at least one potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment. -I think I could have implemented Todorov's theory a bit better -I could have talked about the UK class difference and stereotypes in more detail -I could have explained the narrative and genre importance in more detail -My oppostional, preferred and negotiated ready could have included more detail in terms of explaining why 3) Read this  exemplar response  from a previous Year 12 (an A grade) - note this was a slightly different paper in terms of the question wording (we've updated it to better reflect recent exams).  Identify at least  one  potential point for each question from this student'

Audience theory 1: blog tasks Hypodermic needle model 1) Read this  Mail Online article about the effects of videogames . How does this article link to the hypodermic needle model? It uses old theories such as "video games cause violence" and they compare gaming as the "smoking one cigarette won't cause lung cancer..." analogy, they also made university students perform this experiment which isn't a very good choice as they may be stressed from all their work and playing video games relieves stress so taking away something that would relieve them would maybe allow them to be even more stressed, this follows the hypodermic needle model as they use people who have growing minds or people with lots of stress to perform this task so that the results may seem more accurate to their side. 2) How does coverage of the Talk Talk hacking case (see Daily Mail front page below) link to the hypodermic needle model? Why might someone criticise this front page?  This fro

MIGRAIN: Audience classification

1 ) Make sure your  psychographics presentation  is uploaded on your blog with  all  details of the couple and their media consumption (it needs to be on everybody's blog individually but can be a duplicate of your partner's post). Structure Who you are working with: The psychographic group you are researching: Aspirers   Introduce your example couple that represents your group: 1) Make up their names: Sandra and John 2) Where do they work/study? They would most likely do an apprenticeship  3) What do they do in their spare time? Gamble, invest in stocks/companies Now suggest their media consumption: Print: What newspapers/magazines does your group read (if any)? Is this on paper or tablet?  They would read newspapers such as "The Times" and "The Guardian"  so they may find out about the world and see if their investments can lead to a profit or a loss, they  would also read magazines such as "Vogue" as they have many people to look up to as the &q
