Introduction to Media: Media consumption audit

Newspapers

  • Which daily newspapers (if any) do you read
          I do not read newspapers exactly however I do read them from time to time if I do find             one laying around 
  • What sections of newspapers do you turn to first, and why?
        I usually turn to parts where the most recent events/important events that have  
        happened
  • What sections do you never read, and why?
        I do not read the sections about celebrities as they do not appeal to me
        and I think that they are just gaining more attention than they already have
        
  • What kinds of stories do you usually read and why?
           I usually read the law changes or any events such as murders or even new tech
            that would be soon introduced

  • Do you, or someone else, buy the newspaper you read?
          My father usually brings a few newspapers home, but as I read newspapers that I find
          laying around there is usually a variety
  • Do you look at the online versions of any newspapers? Which newspapers? Why do you visit their website and not others?
          From what I have seen, online newspapers are something I do not like as they ask for
          you to pay or turn off the ad blocker, I prefer to stick to the paper as they are free to                  take and read 

Magazines
  • What magazines (if any) do you buy regularly?  Why/why not?
        The magazines that I have bought are usually tech or game related, but I do not buy
        magazines regularly as I usually use the internet to find the same
        information/entertainment they contain
  • What sections of the magazines do you read and not read, and why?
           If it is a magazine that I am interested in then I will read the majority of it but if it is a
           random magazine that I just find laying around then I will only go to parts where I find               interesting
Television
  • Approximately how many hours a week do you spend watching television?
         I do not watch a lot of TV but on the occasion that I do I would say about 2-3 hours a             week
  • What device do you use to watch television?
          I use the TV to watch the television   
  • What times of day do you usually watch television?
          I usually watch TV in the mornings
  • What programmes do you like best and why?
          I like cooking shows and shows about crime and law.
  • Do you watch alone or with others? If you watch with others, who decides what you will watch?
          I usually watch TV with my family
  • Do you watch 'live' TV or on-demand/catch-up? Do you use any other devices to watch TV (such as a laptop or tablet?)
         I watch usually watch live TV

Radio
  • Do you listen to the radio?
        I do listen to the radio from time to time in the car

  • If yes, what stations do you like best and why?
            I usually listen to capital FM or BBC radio 1 music or classical music as I enjoy                       classical music and BBC Radio 1 sometimes plays nostalgic songs
  • Do you listen to podcasts?
          I listen to podcasts online while doing work or gaming.
  • If yes, what podcasts have you listened to recently?
          I have listened to a podcast but I have forgotten the name.
  • Approximately how many hours a week do you spend listening to podcasts or radio?
          Radio I listen to in the car so it depends on how long the journey is and the podcast
          I think I have listened to it for about 5 hours a week
  • What times of the day do you usually listen to podcasts or radio?
          The radio I listen to in the car and the podcasts are usually in the afternoon to night
  • Where do you listen to podcasts or radio?
          I listen to the radio in the car and the podcasts at home on my computer
  • What other activities (if any) do you do whilst listening?
          I usually complete some work or play some games
  • Does anyone else in your house listen to the radio or podcasts? If so, when do they listen?
         I think my parents listen to some sort of podcast but I'm not sure because I never
         really paid attention to it.

Film
  • What films have you seen in the cinema in the last month?
        I have seen "Sonic the hedgehog 2" and "Bad guys"
  • What films have you seen in other places – for example, through Netflix, Amazon Prime, satellite/cable film channels (free or otherwise) or streaming?
        I have seen watched breaking bad on Netflix even though it is a series show.
  • Who else watched the films with you?
        My family usually watches films with me
  • Who decided what films to watch?
        My younger siblings usually decide what they want to watch
  • What devices do you typically use to watch films: TV, laptop, tablet, phone etc.?
        We go to the cinema or maybe even watch on the TV.

Online
  • How often do you access the internet?
        I often access the internet pretty much every day
  • Where do you access the internet? At home, at school, commuting etc.
        At home, school, or outside but when I'm outside camping or anything like that I do not 
        access the internet whatsoever
  • What are the main sites that you access?
        The main site I go to is Youtube.
  • What are the main reasons for accessing these sites – for example, for information, to make purchases communicate with friends or for entertainment?
          Youtube has a wide variety of content that anyone can like, I usually use it for
        entertainment and learning some things.
  • What other activities (if any) do you do whilst accessing the internet?
        I do work, learn some things and talk to my friends.
  • What different devices do you use to access the internet? What is your primary device for accessing the internet?
        I use my computer and phone to access the internet
  • What social networks do you use regularly (e.g. Twitter, Instagram)? Why do you belong to these networks in particular?
        I usually use Youtube for entertainment and learning.

Reflection
  • How can you develop the amount and variety of media you consume?
        I could start exploring more media forms such as newspapers and magazines
  • What will you change in your media consumption habits this year as a result of studying A Level Media?
        I will actively try and look for more magazines and newspapers to expand my media
        intake.
  • List three sources of media (websites/newspapers/apps/TV programmes etc.) that you will start to access this year that you haven't engaged with previously.
           I will start to look at newspapers, magazines and radio more.
